1.6MM SQFT Expansion Planned at Fox Studios in Century City

In an effort to meet the growing demands of the entertainment industry, Fox Corporation has submitted plans that would grow its current presence at Fox Studios in Century City. The project, dubbed “Fox Future,” would add approximately 1.6 million square feet of new studio- and office-related spaces.

The project site is located at 10201 W Pico Blvd. and would bring the current space from 1.8 million square feet to a total of 3.43 million square feet. The $1.5 billion expansion would take place over the next 26 years in order to accommodate increases in on-site employment through 2050, according to plans submitted to the City.

“The Fox Studio Lot is one of the most iconic and treasured production locations in the history of entertainment and is a rich part of our history,” said Lachlan Murdoch, executive chair and CEO of Fox Corporation in a statement. “The Fox Future project represents a long-term commitment to our industry, to our community, and to the City of Los Angeles.”

Overall, the project would include 13 new sound stages, bringing the total up from 15 to 24. The project also includes numerous office spaces, pre- and post-production spaces and a new pedestrian plaza.

Additionally, the project would bring a 24-story office building complete with both collaborative open spaces and private offices. Through the project, Fox may also seek a development partner to transform the northeast portion of the site with 35 stories of additional office space over seven levels of parking.

The project would also provide more clear access to the planned Metro D-Line, which is set to open in Century City in 2025. In total, the project would provide over $20 million in anticipated Transportation Improvement and Mitigation Fees which focus on West Los Angeles specific improvements.

The newly proposed plans are not the first to be submitted to the City of Los Angeles. In 2015, Fox Corporation also submitted plans for 1.1 million square feet of creative office space and new sound stages before pivoting to the larger expansion plan.

Fox Studios has been part of Century City for nearly 100 years. Fox Corporation was founded in 1915 with Fox Studios opening its first sound stages shortly after in 1928.
