127-Unit Affordable Senior Housing Project in Glendale to be Completed in 2024

After breaking ground earlier in March, a new housing project will provide 127 affordable apartment units to Glendale senior citizens. The development by Meta Housing Corporation has been dubbed Citrus Crossing and is expected to be completed by 2024.

The development is located at 900 E. Broadway. Once completed, it will total 142,550 square feet and reach five stories.

The apartment building is intended for seniors earning 30 to 70 percent of the area’s median income, which in Glendale is $54,997 per year, according to the City. The Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority also reports that nearly 15,000 of all homeless people in the Los Angeles area are 55 years or older.

“Older adults are at the center of California’s housing affordability and homelessness crisis,” Kasey Burke, president of Meta Housing Corporation, said. “For many seniors, they are being forced to choose between paying rent, purchasing food, buying important medications and receiving medical care. Due to these compounding factors, older adults represent the fastest growing age group of the homeless population in California. This is why it is essential that we continue to prioritize seniors when planning and developing affordable housing.”

In addition to its housing component, the project will include an 8,046 square-foot plaza, 2,267 square feet of roof deck amenity spaces, several community rooms, a senior services room and a two-level subterranean parking garage with 92 parking spaces.

The designs for the project by California-based architecture firm AC Martin also includes plenty of outdoor amenity spaces. The groundlevel courtyard will include outdoor landscaping and seating and will also connect to pedestrian paseo, allowing public access to the courtyard. The building will also provide three roof decks on the fifth floor, with each offering different amenities, including a garden, a game room area and outdoor living room.

The property is located in a transit-oriented neighborhood, with State Roads 2 and 134 also just a short drive away. The project site is also just half a mile from The Americana at Brand and the Glendale Galleria, offering nearby shopping and dining amenities.

The project is being built on a City-owned plot of land. The development is part of the Glendale Housing Authority’s mission to provide more affordable housing options throughout the City. So far, the GHA has helped to develop over 1,200 affordable housing units for low-income renters and homeowners throughout the city.

Meta Housing Corporation has developed more than 7,900 residential units since its founding in 1993. The Los Angeles–based company develops both affordable and mixed-income properties throughout the state of California.
