New apartments are being planned for South Central Los Angeles, according to a recently submitted application. That application showed plans for a 149-unit apartment building located at 1915 to 1935 S. Los Angeles Street.

Plans for the project come from Los Angeles-based Norman Family LP and includes a 177,645 square foot building reaching seven stories. The project includes a mix of unit types, including 37 studio, 98 one-bedroom and 14 two-bedroom apartments. Approximately 25 percent of the project would also be reserved for low income households.

Designs for the project come from AXIS-GFA Architects and offer various open spaces as well, including several community rooms, private balconies and an open terrace. In addition, parking would be provided for 102 vehicles.

Currently, the 0.8-acre project site is developed with five industrial buildings totaling 26,500 square feet. The site is situated just south of downtown Los Angeles near Interstate 10 and within close proximity to Los Angeles Trade Technical-College.

In general, the Los Angeles area has seen a lot of development in recent months.

One project currently underway is Evermont, a 180-unit affordable apartment project at the corner of Vermont and Manchester avenues. The project is being developed  by BRIDGE Housing, the Coalition for Responsible Community Development and Primestor Development. Construction on the project is expected to be completed in 2024.

In nearby downtown Los Angeles, another project at 700 South Flower Street will include 466 condominiums. The project by National Real Estate Advisors will total 53 stories and is located within The Bloc, a mixed-use office and retail complex. The development will take shape on an existing Macy’s and also includes parking for 441 vehicles, according to The Registry’s previous reporting.
