A well-known Hollywood art gallery and showroom owned by art collector and curator Joel Chen has recently come under new ownership. Public records show that the showroom, JF Chen, was acquired by Redcar Properties for $31.5 million, or approximately $1,079 per square foot.

Located at 1000 North Highland Avenue, the one-story property is 29,190 square feet and was built in 1962, according to public records.

According to JF Chen’s website, the art gallery offers a unique collection of “museum-quality furniture, decorative pieces and masterworks of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries.” JF Chen has been around for nearly 40 years, offering a lengthy selection of pieces by popular designers, including Poul Kjaerholm, Jean Prouve, Charles and Ray Eames, Jacques Adnet and Donald Judd, among others.

“Always ahead of the trends, Chen has the eye and intellectual rigor of a curator, and his passion and appreciation for fine design have made him a source of inspiration for collectors, decorators, museums, and others in the design and creative industries,” the website states.

The property is located in Hollywood, just off of Santa Monica Boulevard. The area is home to many retail assets, as well as several studios within just a few blocks of the property. These include Sunset Las Palmas Studios, Sunset Gower Studios and Paramount Pictures Studios.

Based nearby on Santa Monica Boulevard, Redcar Properties purchases buildings in high-growth settings throughout Los Angeles, according to its website. Most recently, the company purchased Dynasty Shopping Center. Located at 800-812 N. Broadway and 821 N. Spring Street, the 79,500 square-foot Chinatown retail property was sold for $29.5 million, or approximately $371 per square foot.
