VICTORVILLE, CA – Skanska, a leading global construction and development firm, recently completed the extension of Green Tree Boulevard in Victorville, CA. The project connects the communities of Victorville and Apple Valley, providing access to jobs, schools, healthcare, and many more necessary services across Victor Valley. It also provides much-needed congestion relief to Bear Valley Road.
The project includes:
- A 600-foot-long bridge that travels over the BNSF railroad, marking Victorville’s longest bridge
- A new traffic signal where Green Tree Boulevard connects with Ridgecrest Road
- The widening of Ridgecrest Road to four lanes, along with the widening of the intersection of Green Tree Boulevard and Hesperia Road, and the addition of new turn lanes
- Bike lanes throughout the length of the project creating a seven-mile-long loop throughout the community
“This was a project 50 years in the making,” said Mike Aparicio, executive vice president of Skanska USA Civil’s operations on the West Coast. “The Green Tree Blvd. extension brought a construction project of a magnitude that the City of Victorville hadn’t seen before. It required not only great engineering, but also great vision, teamwork, and collaboration. Skanska was happy to have the opportunity to work closely with the City of Victorville, along with BNSF Railway and Parsons to complete this project for the Victorville community.”
Skanska’s work on the project included roadway excavation and grading, the use of aggregate base, concrete paving, a cast-in-place concrete bridge, retaining walls, and storm drainage along with the implementation of traffic signals, signage and lighting. More than one million pounds of rebar and more than fourteen thousand cubic yards of concrete were used to construct the new bridge, and nearly twenty-eight thousand tons of asphalt and close to one million cubic yards of dirt were used for the bridge and roadway combined.
