Terran Orbital, a manufacturer of satellites, is continuing to grow its space in Irvine, recently pre-leasing a 94,000 square foot manufacturing facility. The Boca Raton, Fla.-based company announced the plans for expansion during a fourth quarter earnings call that took place on Tuesday.

“This optimization will enhance the efficiency and capacity of our entire production system. When fully ramped, this addition has a potential to raise our satellite capacity to multiples of our prior 250 per year target. We will have a formal groundbreaking ceremony in May of this year and expect the facility to begin commissioning in 2024,” said Marc Bell, co-founder and CEO of Terran Orbital, during the call.

While Terran Orbital did not share where the new facility would be located, numerous industry reports indicate the facility will be located at 4 Goodyear, a site once utilized by Astronics Test Systems but has since been bulldozed to make way for the new project. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The facility has already begun construction, according to Terran Orbital. Overall, the building will include 36-foot high bay assembly space to accommodate larger satellites as satellite assembly will be fully moved to the new facility. Other industrial facilities occupied by Terran Orbital will be used for the production of components and modules for the satellites.

The space adds to the company’s more than 200,000 square feet of industrial space across Irvine. In October of 2022, the company announced that it had added approximately 140,000 square feet in Irvine in just the past 12 months. The company initially had plans to expand its presence in Florida through a partnership with Space Florida but has since changed directions, allowing the company’s significant expansion into Irvine.

The company has numerous sites throughout Irvine, including at 400 Spectrum Center Drive, 15330 Barranca Parkway and 50 Technology Drive.
