Walmart Announces Closure of Two Stores in San Diego County

By The Registry Staff

Walmart has revealed plans to shutter two of its San Diego County stores on February 9, citing financial under-performance and an inability to reach lease agreement terms with the property owner.

The affected locations include the Walmart Neighborhood Market at 2121 Imperial Ave. in San Diego and the store at 605 Fletcher Parkway in El Cajon.

Despite the closures, Walmart emphasizes its commitment to supporting affected employees, with 125 workers in San Diego and 232 in El Cajon given the option to relocate to nearby stores.

The retail giant currently operates 27 stores, supercenters, and markets in the county, along with a Sam’s Club in San Diego.

The decision follows Walmart’s closure of 22 stores across 14 states last summer, where poor financial performance was also cited as the primary reason. While there are no immediate plans for additional closures in the San Diego region, the move underscores the company’s strategic approach to managing its store portfolio in response to market dynamics and lease negotiations.
