California awarded $121.3 million in film and television tax credits to nine new television series on Aug. 10, steering $608 million in production spending toward a Los Angeles studio market where roughly one-third of certified stage space sits idle and where an overlooked provision in the state budget threatens to cut the incentive's value in half.
