Ahead of Monday’s exhibition game against the Seattle Mariners, the gates to Petco Park will open early at 3 p.m., allowing fans to explore the newly renovated Gallagher Square, announced the San Diego Padres in a recent press release.

The $20 million renovation project, initially announced back in May as part of the franchise’s 20th-anniversary celebrations, aims to enhance the ballpark experience and better serve the community.

Among the new amenities added to Gallagher Square are an expanded playground catering to a wider range of ages, an off-leash dog park, pickleball courts and a Tony Gwynn Terrace viewing deck, offering fans a scenic picnic space outside of game time. Additionally, improvements include additional retail and food areas adjacent to the Tony Gwynn Tunnel and a Balboa Gate entry at 9th and J Street, aimed at reducing wait times.

The transformation also features leveled lawn seating, making it more affordable for fans, video boards displaying game statistics and the replacement of some grass areas with turf. Notably, the iconic statue of Mr. Padre, Tony Gwynn, has been placed on an elevated platform surrounded by a viewing deck.

The Padres’ home opener is scheduled for Thursday against the San Francisco Giants, with the first pitch set for 1:10 p.m. Fans can expect an enhanced ballpark experience with the unveiling of Gallagher Square’s impressive transformation.
