LOS ANGELES, CA –– Skanska, a leading global construction and development firm, has announced that its program management and consulting group, Skanska Integrated Solutions (SIS), has been selected by the San Gabriel and Lower Los Angeles Rivers and Mountains Conservancy (RMC) to provide construction management services for two of its current projects: the construction of the Gehry Partners-designed Southeast Los Angeles (SELA) Cultural Center in South Gate and the development of the Alondra Gateway Park in Compton, CA. SIS will oversee the management of planning, scheduling, preconstruction, procurement, and construction for both projects.

Designed by Gehry Partners, the SELA Cultural Center is a first-of-its-kind multi-arts facility located in South Gate along the Los Angeles River, bringing together world-class design and arts programming to the area. The project is the first of seven signature projects to reach implementation from the Lower Los Angeles River Revitalization Plan (LLARRP), a comprehensive program aimed at transforming the Los Angeles River. Skanska was originally engaged as the project advisor for the SELA Cultural Center and will now be taking on a larger role as construction manager.
The Alondra Gateway Park, the first park project from the Compton Creek Implementation Plan, is a transformative, community-led development that highlights systematic inequities while also addressing climate sustainability, designed by landscape architecture firm STUDIO-MLA. Reviving an underutilized vacant property along Compton Creek, the 0.5-acre park will be accessible for families, bikers, runners, equestrians and others, featuring a picnic, seating and exercise area, along with natural play features, shade trees and bicycle parking. The project will enter its construction phase in the coming months, and is funded by a 2019 budget allocation made possible by Assemblymember Mike Gipson. Skanska will be responsible for overseeing all phases of construction.
