Tesla Transforms EV Charging with a Diner and Drive-In Theater in LA

Tesla is making significant strides in constructing a unique Supercharger station, complete with a diner and drive-in movie theater in Los Angeles. This innovative concept is rapidly taking shape, with recent developments indicating a new phase in the project’s progress.

A recent video by the YouTube channel 247Tesla offers a vivid glimpse into the construction advancements at the East Hollywood site. Only a month ago, the area was dotted with mere scaffolding. Now, walls are rising, giving form to Tesla’s ambitious vision. The number of construction workers on-site has notably increased, actively working on sealing air barriers and shaping the building to resemble the “Milliways” restaurant concept, a nod to the popular internet buzz since Tesla CEO Elon Musk introduced the idea in 2018.

The project, which broke ground in late September, is quickly evolving. Site plans reveal at least 25 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. The design includes movie screens on the walls opposite the restaurant and plans for rooftop and deck level seating, as seen in the latest drone footage. This multi-faceted approach aims to provide a unique experience for Tesla drivers, combining the practicality of charging with the enjoyment of dining and entertainment.

Elon Musk’s vision for this project dates back to a 2018 Twitter conversation where he expressed his desire to create an “old school drive-in, roller skates & rock restaurant” at one of the new Tesla Supercharger locations in LA. Musk also envisioned featuring short clips from classic movies on the screens. This idea has evolved into the current project, initially intended for Santa Monica but now taking shape at 7001 West Santa Monica Boulevard in East Hollywood.

As Tesla progresses with this unique combination of services, it could revolutionize the EV charging experience. This project could be a prototype for future developments, leading to a new chain of Tesla-themed entertainment and dining facilities co-located with Supercharger stations.
