San Diego’s Little Italy will soon be seeing additional housing, after Toll Brothers Apartment Living recently broke ground on a 37-story luxury apartment complex there. Located at 1331 Columbia Street, the project – also known as The Lindley – will bring 422 residential units to the area.

Once completed, the Lindley will total more than 800,000 square feet and include more than 12,000 square feet of ground floor retail space, making it one of the largest projects to be developed by the Toll Brothers. According to the company, the project will serve as a “flagship development,” setting itself apart from previous multifamily developments in Southern California.

“The Lindley proudly announces our firm’s arrival to the thriving San Diego market. This project will represent the very best of what Toll Brothers Apartment Living can build, and as one of our flagship properties, it will embody a new standard of luxury development in this city,” Charles Elliott, president of Toll Brothers Apartment Living, said in a statement.

The Lindley will offer a mix of studio, one- and two-bedroom unit options as well as several penthouse and townhouse options. The project also includes a parking structure with space for up to 561 vehicles.

Designs for the project come from Joseph Wong Design Associates and include a number of luxury amenities. These include a lobby and concierge at the main level. At the upper amenity deck, the building also will include a pool, fitness center, yoga room lounge area and more.

Located at the corner of Columbia and Ash Streets, the building will also place future tenants near a number of dining and retail amenities. The property is just north of downtown San Diego and within close proximity to the San Diego Bay as well.

While the project will be The Toll Brothers’ first project in San Diego, the development company has developed several properties throughout the country. As well as California, the development company has completed projects in Arizona, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas and Washington D.C. In total, the company has developed 8,463 units since its founding approximately 55 years ago. According to its website, the company also manages 4,490 apartment units and has an additional 17,653 units in the development pipeline.

The Lindley is anticipated to be completed by 2024.
