160-Unit Apartment Development in Long Beach Moves Forward

By Catherine Sweeney

Long Beach could soon see the development of more housing following a recent meeting with the Long Beach Planning Commission. During that meeting, a 160-unit development proposal by Los Angeles-based firm GLB Properties was moved forward.

The project site is located at 2515 Atlantic Ave. on a triangular-shaped plot of land south of Willow Street. The proposal seeks to redevelop the site with a six-story residential building as well as parking for up to 74 vehicles and 23 bicycles.

The residential component includes a mix of 58 studio units, 82 one-bedroom units and 20 two-bedroom units. Additionally, 20 of the total units would be reserved for affordable housing.

Designs for the project come from Studio T-Square 2, with renderings depicting a contemporary podium style building with a primarily white stucco facade. The project also features several landscaped amenity areas, including a pool, roof deck and more. Some units will also feature private balconies. Landscape designs come from SALT Landscape Architects.

The project was approved with minimal discussion and no public comments were made. Following the meeting, the project team will have to secure approval from the City Council in order to begin construction on the project.

Long Beach has seen a number of residential projects planned in recent months.

In July, the city saw a proposal for a 600-unit development from Onni Group. The project, also called Onni Marina Shores, would take shape at 6500 Pacific Coast Highway on a six-acre site and would include the construction of two five-story buildings with a range of studio to three-bedroom apartment units. The project would also provide 4,000 square feet of commercial space and offer a three-level podium garage capable of accommodating over 1,100 vehicles, according to The Registry’s previous reporting.

That same month, Carmel Partners also received planning commission approval for a 390-unit apartment project at 6615 E Pacific Coast Highway. The project would stand six stories tall and provide 5,351 square feet of ground floor commercial space and parking for up to 576 vehicles.
