520-Unit Residential Project Planned at Site of Sportsmen’s Lodge in Studio City

In August 2021, a residential project aiming to revitalize a space along Ventura Boulevard in Studio City, was proposed. Now, a recirculated environmental impact report is shedding light on some of the project’s additional details.

Led by project developer Midwood, The Residences at Sportsmen’s Lodge would replace a 1960s hotel with a modern apartment complex featuring 520 upscale residences. The site is located at 12825 Ventura Blvd. and would include ground-floor retail and dining spaces spanning approximately 46,000 square feet as well as parking for 1,385 vehicles.

The project includes a mix of studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments, including 78 units of very low-income affordable housing. By including these affordable units, the development qualifies for density bonus incentives, granting flexibility in adhering to zoning regulations regarding floor area and building height.

Additionally, the Residences at Sportsmen’s Lodge will provide 21,000 square feet of publicly accessible open space, including inviting courtyards for both residents and retail customers. As a testament to its commitment to connectivity, the project includes plans for a pedestrian path connecting Ventura Boulevard to the neighboring Los Angeles River, further enhancing access and promoting a sense of community.

Architectural firm Marmol Radziner leads the design of the new development, collaborating with MVE + Partners and landscape architecture firm Olin. The project embraces elements of mid-century modern architecture as well as contemporary designs.

The project is also designed to complement the nearby Shops at Sportsmen’s Lodge, situated westward along Coldwater Canyon Avenue. The retail complex, anchored by Erewhon, was constructed on the former conference center site of the original hotel and encompasses 94,000 square feet of leasable space.

Construction of the Residences is anticipated to take place over the course of 43 months, with completion expected sometime in 2027.
